Shaylea and I returned from Boston, MA last night after 4 great days at the annual Pony Club Convention. Shaylea took part in the Pony Paddock which was for clubbers up to age 12. She had a blast playing lots of horse-related games, going on a mock fox-hunt up and down 2 sets of escalators and through the halls of the hotel complete with a "whip-dog handler" chasing a fox who was posting Post-It scent all around; plus several animal rescue and zoo organizations brought animals for the kids to see, learned how to put on leg wraps and she got to visit the Anatomy room and see all kinds of fascinating horse parts. I went to several round table discussions on building our club, financial information as well as lots of great workshops on how to develop a basic balanced position for the rider, what a dressage judge is looking for, cross country "smarts", fox hunting, the influence of Pony Clubbers on their community, the Anatomy room, an inspirational talk by a pentathelete trying out for the next Olympics, saddle fitting and much more! I wish there had been more days because there were several workshops I had to choose between and really would have liked to have done them all!! If you ever get a chance to go, it will be worth your while!!
We also ate lots of good seafood and boston cream pie, went ice skating in a local park, played in the snow as it fell on Sunday morning and met lots of wonderful horse-minded adults and kids!
