Rising Star participated in Riverside Hills PC's annual holiday dressage musical, held this year in Norco. They rode to "Here Comes Santa Claus" by 38 Special and that was their theme! 4 horses/ponies had parts as reindeer, their riders were Santa's elves and Spirit was dressed up as Santa Claus with his rider as his gift bag. They received much applause and rode a great test. It was a lot of fun and they looked great! All the horses/ponies behaved extremely well and we are sooooo proud of them. Pictures to follow!

This was Hannah's first time doing tetrathalon and she said she like the shooting the best! Kelly and Shaylea were in their 3rd competition. Kelly improved her scores in shooting and swimming. Shaylea and Spirit were rock solid in jumping. All 3 girls met the time standard in the running!! They also got to participate in 2 fencing lessons. The weather was perfect and they had fun hanging out with the other kids in the competition and clinic. What a great way to sta...... Read More

Rising Star has been busy! We rode and met for unmounted meetings all summer, went down to Sandia Creek Ranch for a cross-country clinic, participated in a Model Horse Rally, the Standards and Ratings Clinic and the annual Fundraiser Show. Last week we hosted a saddle fitting clinic and lesson. The clinician, Tiffany Silverman was very knowledgeable and worked with the girls learning how to properly fit a horse or pony with a saddle. They dismantled an old saddle and got to see how saddles are made and the difference between saddles flocked with wool and foam. After that, the girls created thei...... Read More

We sent a full team to El Cajon for the Dressage Rally! Rebecca did an admirable job as stable manager, getting the riders where they needed to be on time and ready to go, keeping the stable area neat and the horses content :)
All the girls rode successful tests and did a great job of representing Rising Star. It was a long day for all but we are looking forward to the Stadium Jumping Rally next month!!

Shaylea and I returned from Boston, MA last night after 4 great days at the annual Pony Club Convention. Shaylea took part in the Pony Paddock which was for clubbers up to age 12. She had a blast playing lots of horse-related games, going on a mock fox-hunt up and down 2 sets of escalators andthrough the halls of the hotel complete with a "whip-dog handler" chasing a fox who was posting Post-It scent all around; plus several animal rescue and zoo organizations brought animals for the kids to see, learned how to put on leg wraps and she got to visit the Anatomy room and see all kinds o...... We met and planned out the 2008 year so I will be filling in the calendar and if you have any questions about when different events are, just check the calendar. There are lots of fun events planned for the year (horseless, dressage, stadium jumping, tetrathalon, quizand eventing rallies, summer camp, standards and ratings clinic for parents) plus the usual mounts and horse management meetings.
Brooke H. taught hoof care and shoeing and the kids did lots of fun horse activities while the parents were setting the agenda.

The Winter Musical went very well. It was moved to a Saturday afternoon and was much warmer than if it had been held in the evening. The previous dress rehearsal held at night was freezing and windy!
Everyone did very well, remembered their routines and had fun :) The little princesses on ponies were soooooo cute and the pirate costumes were wonderful! We are looking forward to participating again next year!

This last Saturday, we held our annual holiday party. Almost everyone was there and we enjoyed the great food and a funny game of horse charades. During our gift exchange, a cute little barn full of stuffed ponies was the "hot" item amongst the younger girls. Thanks to everyone for bringing wonderful food :)

Sara V. came to instruct. The kids went through the parts of a saddle and bridle again, looked at some pieces of tack that were not safe (cracks, stitching coming out, etc.) and then everyone worked on cleaning tack they had brought "the Pony Club" way. Lots of elbow grease later, their saddles, bridles and bits were looking really clean and shiny!

Yesterday was the first practice for the Winter Musical we are doing along with Riverside Hills PC. The girls were somewhat confused about what they were to do at first, but once Sara Mc. went through it with them, it started to make sense and their routine is looking really good! Now the girls are excited about performing and what they are doing together. We are working on costumes and practicing more each week to perfect it. Check out pictures of practice on our Image Gallery!

The dressage schooling show in Menifee was really a good experience for the kids. It was held at a new facility and we hope they host more schooling shows because it was a good set-up. We had 4 girls representing our club there and Brooke W. came as our coach. They also got to watch Sara V. ride her horse and win!
We had some initial issues with 2 ponies deciding to leave the dressage arena prematurely but the girls rallied and were able to improve their performances on their next rides!!
Overall, they did well, improving each time they rode, remembering their tests and supporting each other....... Read More

Our horse management lesson covered parts of the bridle and saddle. The kids had fun trying reassemble a bridle as fast as they could! Our next session will cover types of bits and how to clean tack.
